Photo Journalism
I was inspired by the documentary Samsara, a documentary created by Ron Fricke that explores the world. It includes captivating scenery but also horrific realities of the human impact. To me this shows the undeniable and breath-taking beauty of nature, and how nature has the power to create emotions of bliss. However, the disturbing scenery reminds us of the detrimental impact of human activity onto the environment. I see this as a way to encourage people to help heal the environment, as most people would be moved by the beautiful imagery and therefore would naturally want to conserve the environment. In addition. most people are sickened by the disturbing imagery of the human impact, thus encouraging the drive to recover the environment. After watching this film, I decided I wanted to create the same message and create an environmental photo journal. Within this photo journal, I begin with stunning scenes of nature that I was lucky enough to witness this summer. My goal with these photos was to show the profound beauty of nature, and hopefully the viewer can experience a sense of bliss and captivation. Furthermore, I include images of the human impact, from waste pollution to urbanization. With these photos, my goal was to remind the viewer of the horrid affects of the human footprint. In addition, I aim to repulse the viewer in an attempt to encourage environmental conservation.
